Composer and pianist Marek Novotný, who studied composition at the American university UMASS, has surrounded himself in his new quartet with exceptional, nowadays one could say “legendary”, personalities of the Czech jazz scene: guitarist Libor Šmoldas and drummer Tomáš Hobzek, together with new blood and exceptional double bassist Max Makagonov. Marek Novotný is the author of all the band’s repertoire, compositions that move between jazz and classical music, which are mostly conceived as larger compositions. The mood of the individual compositions shifts from impressionistic, to modern jazz, to playful and humorous. The quartet was founded recently, but has already given a number of concerts. Worth mentioning are performances at the international festival in Baku (Azerbaijan), or Dresden.
